Description

What if taking care of yourself was the first step to helping your family thrive?

If you’ve parented long enough, then you’ve learned firsthand why your personal wellness matters. You’ve felt the pain (or consequences) of devaluing yourself. Whether your wake-up call came from a diagnosis, a breakdown, an issue with your child or spouse, anxiety, or simply feeling depleted and numb, it most likely unveiled this truth:

Mothers are humans too. We require love, compassion, rest, and renewal. Taking care of our needs strengthens us and equips us for the road ahead.

In More Than a Mom, bestselling author Kari Kampakis offers a practical, approachable, and attainable framework to stay on a healthy path. You can take your kids only as far as you’ve come–and since their strength builds on your strength, you must take time to focus on you. More Than a Mom is about unleashing God’s power in your life and standing on timeless truths that will help you

know your worth and embrace your purpose, build strong, uplifting friendships that you can model for your children, quit the negative self-talk and make peace with your body, andlearn to mother yourself by resting and setting boundaries.

The world shaping your children is more callous and complex than the world that shaped you. Kids need to be stronger, smarter, and more rooted in what’s real. Empower your son or daughter by tending to your heart, soul, body, and mind. Give them a vision of a healthy adult–and know that as they launch into the real world, they will build on what you started.

“In marathon running and training, ‘hitting the wall’ is when your muscles and strength give out despite your will. I had long associated this term with sports – until I hit the wall as a mom. Despite my will, I could no longer keep an intense pace, and denying myself the dignity of self-care and proper rest landed me in the hospital, and it took a surgery to find rest for my soul. That health scare, 7 years ago, shook my world in the best way as it highlighted how my well-being directly correlates to how well I can serve my family. In More Than a Mom, Kari offers wisdom and encouragement to help us avoid hitting that same wall. She fuels us with reminders that we are children of God, He cares for us, and He desires that we care for ourselves so we can care for the children and the precious family He has entrusted to us. Don’t hit the wall like I did. Instead, read this book.”

Kari identifies the often unacknowledged or overlooked needs we have as moms, affirms the significance of us tending to our own souls as we tend to the precious souls God has entrusted to us, and shows us how to model healthy and biblical self-care to our kids. “Both mothers and grandmothers will be inspired by this gracious wisdom. In an age of social media that leaves us constantly questioning our mothering skills and feeling inadequate, it’s a refreshing reminder of what it means to be human as we raise and shape the next generation. More than a Mom is brilliantly written and an essential read to overcome a culture of parent-shaming and self-doubt. This book is a true gift for all moms.”

    Eye Opening and Relatable
Kari does an exceptional job of explaining our roles as not just mothers but women in Christ. She ties in scriptures and real life experiences so beautifully. I needed this book!

Enjoyed it so my I read it twice.
Was a great book to do as a group. I liked that each chapter stands alone and you can jump on or out and not miss anything. I feel like it’s good both for deep and shallower groups. Great discussion topics.

    A Must-Read for All Moms!
As a licensed counselor, Kari is one of my best go-to resources when it comes to parenting ‘teen and ‘tween girls. I’ve used her articles for moms in my mother-daughter retreats. I’ve recommended her other books to clients. And, I shared her wisdom with my own daughter, as she walked through her adolescent and ‘teen years. As mamas, it’s important to have tools in our hands to help us navigate the roller coaster world we find ourselves in during the teen season. And, it’s important that we do our own work. Now, in her 4th book, Kari raises the important question, “What if taking care of yourself was the first step to helping your family thrive?”Our personal wellness, as moms, is essential. We can’t give from an empty cup, and if we’re not okay, we have less to give. We have to take care of ourselves first. As Kari shares, “Mothers are humans too. We require love, compassion, rest, and renewal. Taking care of our needs strengthens us and equips us for the road ahead.”In More Than a Mom, Kari does just that. She shares real, easy, and powerful strategies to move forward. She writes, “You can take your kids only as far as you’ve come–and since their strength builds on your strength, you must take time to focus on you.”Moms, do yourself, (and your family) a favor, and make your wellness a priority. We were never meant to do it alone!

    Good for more than moms
More Than A Mom by Kari Kampakis is the first book I have read by this author. I decided to make it a priority read this year since my word of the year is “thrive.” I want to thrive in every aspect of my life, and prioritizing my wellness is something I need to work on.(this book) “It’s your guide to inner wellness and includes ten ways to grow stronger from the inside out through ten life habits you can incorporate to become the mother, woman, and role model you are meant to be.”In some ways, the author sells this book short by marketing it only to mothers. It is relatable to all women, whether they have children or not. We are all so busy that we do not prioritize our health. I shared tidbits of this book with my daughter and teenage son, as some parts are relatable to everyone.”Rest has never felt more elusive because we life in a world of unrest.””You are a human being, not a human doing, and while there is certainly a time to work, there is also a time to stop, breathe, pray, and give thanks for your life.””Today’s world has no boundaries, and this puts more demands on your time.”While I enjoyed this book, and it has valuable information, I don’t feel like it necessarily had new information. I don’t know exactly what I was looking for, but I didn’t find it.I do recommend this to anyone who feels like they are not living their best life. It is an easy, uplifting read.
