Managing emotions is a skill– and it starts with you!
This is another great guide from Catherine Abbot! This book breaks down the chapters with topics such as anger (types of, myths, etc) understanding Autism, ADHD and Anger in children.Kicking off to emotional regulation, and activities that can help you and your child thrive to be their best selves. This is just another book to put into your tool box on how to navigate your family with neurodivergent people. There is nothign wrong with them of course, this is just a guide to help you and them navigate a world that isn’t by design as friendly to them.Catherine Abbot does it again with practical tips and tricks, and all around isn’t thinking about shame or blame game for anyone.

    Awesome guide
Catherine L. Abbott, who is well known for her contributions to the fields of ADHD and autism, has written a third book in which she shares her personal problems with raising a kid with special needs. Her writings helped parents deal with the unusual demands of their own children and focused light on the topic of neurodiversity. The author, Ms. Abbott, shares numerous examples from her own life while striving to be the best parent she can be in her book, which is simple to grasp and offers practical examples of how to remain cool and handle challenging circumstances. If you plan to parent a neurodiverse child, you should read this book immediately.

    Great read!
I recommend this book for any parent of a autistic child! It is well written and very helpful to understanding your own emotions and actions toward your child and suggestions to help.

  4. Marco DeWebb

Very insightful. I wish this book existed 30 years ago.
Our son was diagnosed with ASD and this was back when there was not a lot of research available on the topic of raising such children. The opening words of chapter 2 really struck a chord with me. When we got the diagnosis on our son, we were relieved to finally have a name for what our son was coping with, but we were devastated as well. What do you do with a child with ASD? How do you cope with him and not lose your cool? We had to learn a lot by trial and error. This book is a great and insightful resource.

Good Parenting Tips and Techniques for Controlling Anger

    fell short
I disliked most of the strategies mentioned they are far too generic I could of found most of this information on google.

I felt like I was finally being seen and heard
Raising a child with special needs is a journey filled with highs and lows, and this book became my compass. Every page resonated with my experiences, and the practical advice offered was so so needed. The author’s personal story and relatable anecdotes made me feel like I wasn’t alone in this journey. The activities and strategies provided have already made a difference in our home. To any parent navigating the complexities of ADHD, autism, or rage issues, this book is a must read

A good guide for all parents, though its focus is children with ADHD. Well written and easy to read. There is a lot of information in this one, and some excellent insights.

  10. Danielle

Thank you for writing this book. It seems you have captured all of my feelings, thoughts, fears and ideas on paper in a way that I was unable to express. I can’t wait to put the anger steps into practice and really work on myself.

  11. James Daniel

Another great book and parenting resource from Catherine Abbot!Anger (categories, myths, etc.), comprehending Autism, ADHD, and Anger in Children are only a few of the themes covered in this book’s chapters. This book will help with beginning your journey toward emotional regulation and engaging in activities that will help you and your child thrive and be their best selves. You should add this book to your collection of resources on how to manage neurodiverse family members. Of course, there is nothing wrong with them; this is just a guide to assist you in navigating a world that isn’t intended to be as kind to them.Once more, Catherine Abbot succeeds by offering helpful advice and refraining from assigning blame or thinking about anyone’s embarrassment.

  12. Ksenia

“Mom and Dad, I Need You to Calm Down” is a great resource for parents raising special needs children. With its empathetic tone, practical advice, and focus on impulsive aggression in children with Autism, the book offers guidance that can make a significant difference in the lives of both parents and their children.

  13. Nelly Brown

This book provides practical tips and strategies for parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The author understands the emotional rollercoaster that parents go through after getting an ASD diagnosis for their child. The book aims to help parents understand their child’s condition better and learn ways to cope with challenging behaviors. The book contains many actionable examples that parents can implement immediately. Unlike many other books on this topic, this book acknowledges the finite energy and patience that parents have in dealing with a child with ASD. There is a new challenge, crisis or dilemma to navigate each day, and parents struggle with new anxieties constantly. The advice and strategies provided could help alleviate some of the daily stress and provide more patience and empathy.
