Keep it light.
I took my time and did a proper installation. Its been up for a year with no problem. BUT, I never put anything heavy on it. Just bedsheets and pillows. Just store lightweight items on it and you should be okay.

Not a Tension Shelf
This item is going back. It is described as a tension shelf. In no way shape or form is it a tension shelf. A tension shelf has a spring in it that allows you to quite easily set it to the right length and then push it in to collapse the spring and then let go when it’s in place in the spring holds in place. This does not work that way at all. I spent an hour trying to put this in the space it was to go. It was uneven and one of the ends would not fit in flush with the wall. After struggling with it for all that time, I decided it wasn’t worth it and I’m sending it back.Also, much of the instructions are nonsensical. Clearly it was written in Chinese and then run through a translator and no one read it to make sure it made sense.

It’s a pain to install and it’s kind of ugly-looking
When I started buying products on Amazon I struggled not to give low ratings. Over time as I have bought products that turned out not to have the features advertised I have gotten more critical and less willing to be kind in my rating. This is one of the products that I thought held promise but IMO did not do so in fact.I gave the product 1 star for the following reasons:(1) It was not easy to install. As the space gets larger (mine was 36″), even after propping up the ends as the instructions specified, the bars tend to close in on themselves as you try adjust the feet to keep them tight to the wall. This is similar to the problem one runs into when installing adjustable spring tension rods in closets, but because this product is a “shelf” with 4 feet plus rods in two half sections (rather than one rod with two feet for s spring tension rod) it tends to twist in a number of directions at once and close in on itself. This is especially difficult to handle if one person is doing the installation alone (as I was).(2) The 4 feet do not have anti-slip pads (another reviewer noted this). They are plastic with another plastic “pad” material that contacts the wall. The pad material was not “sticky” enough to hold onto the surface of my painted (flat finish) closet wall. I’m sure I could have put a pad of another, stickier material on the bottom of each of the feet to remedy this, but I just don’t think that I should have to re-engineer a product that I’ve purchased–I just “ding” it in the rating.(3) There are two “locking screws” (if that is the correct term) that are to be placed near/on two feet on one end. Ostensibly, this is so you can tighten the two sliding bar assemblies so that the shelf stays tight to the walls and the two sliding bar assemblies do not collapse in on each other. The directions indicate that you turn the screw to lock the sliding bars. However, the screws have pointed ends whereas the sliding bars are cylindrical (no surprise with that). The instructions do not indicate that you should puncture through the metal of the sliding bar with the pointed screw to lock it in place and there was no way that I was going to try that with a product that I might try to return. After several futile attempts to lock the pointy screws onto the curving bars I gave up and decided to write this review.(4) I did not factor this into the rating, because it is a cosmetic matter but, bears mentioning if “pretty” is important to you: The bars themselves look good, but, when combined with the off-white plastic ends/feet, IMO the entire product is kind of ugly-looking: as if a tubular baby gate and an old-person’s walker combined to make offspring. The shelf actually looks much nicer in the pictures than in my home.Rather than use this product I am seriously considering getting several spring tension bars and a few pieces of wood or acrylic shelving, drilling holes along the perimeter of the shelving and zip tying it to the spring bars to make my own shelf. I am not handy but that would be easier than trying to assemble this contraption.One star for this product.
