It’s a myth that to make the very best versions of classic dishes, they have to be prepared from scratch.
It’s actually a well-known fact in the food industry that chefs have always used shortcuts. But home cooks have not always had the same privilege.
From her extensive experience, Rosie has distilled over 60 classic recipes, such as eggs Benedict, spaghetti and meatballs and lemon meringue pie, and applied every time-saving tip, flavour boost and genius twist that she has to produce failsafe recipes.
The Shortcut Cook is here to make your life in the kitchen bolder, brighter and a whole lot easier. These are world-over favourites that people love to eat and aspire to cook – ready in a flash.

No shortcuts here
Honestly, I have not looked at every recipe, but I have read at between 85% and 90%. I saw one shortcut: Use rotisserie chicken in a Caesar’s salad. Duh.

Although the book’s layout is not as clean and modern as most cookery books are, the contents make up for it. Someone mentioned the oven baked mushroom risotto on a cooking site and I purchased this book on the strength of it after reading other reviews. After my first flick through, I have already chosen 6 dishes to try. Each recipe has a ‘make ahead” and “the shortcut” tip and thete is a photo of each dish as well as a short introduction from the author with clear instructions. There are a lot of meals that can be frozen, ideal for batch cooking. Can’t wait to work my way through the book, looks like it will become a regular go to book.

Already working our way through the recipes and tips to help reduce time and enhance flavor. Also, using the principles in many other of our favorite dishes to do the same. Highly recommend this book for people new to cooking as well as the more experienced

I marked up over a dozen recipes I wanted to try, when I received it – when I put 10/10 in the top corner of the 3rd one, I asked a friend if she wanted a copy, as this book is consistently good, and I love the little Tips (“who knew?”). It is worth the cost even if you ONLY ever cook the oven mushroom risotto! When she says it feeds 4, she means it – but this freezes well, and tastes wonderful the 2nd time round too. ‘Husband off to the fishmonger tomorrow, so we can have the Shrimp Burgers, which only take 15 mins all-in. Really. Treat yourselves!
