Description

Getting the kids to turn off the TV and video games is challenge enough—let alone gathering as a family to read and discuss the Bible! One Year of Dinner Table Devotions & Discussion Starters helps families start where they are already gathered together on a daily basis—around the dinner table. As the meal comes to a close, family members can take turns turning to the dinner-table devotion for that day, designed to be done together as a family in 10 to 15 minutes. The result is a meaningful daily discussion in which every family member can participate, drawing the whole family closer to God . . . and each other.

    Great book
Perfect devotional for a busy family!

    Easy to follow along!
Great way to learn about the Bible with family. Easy to follow along. My teenager enjoys our dinner table talk. Helps start a conversation about God.

    Excellent for family discussions
I love the ease of using this book. It has a main read that isn’t too long and is short, then discussion starters and other verses to look up to go along with the lesson. It got my family talking about The Word at the table which is always a blessing!

    Great discussion questions but…
This book has great discussion questions and has 2-3 scriptures to go along with each devotional. The reason that I gave it 4 stars is because it says it’s for elementary age to high school and I really don’t think it is. Some of the devotionals and discussion questions are written in a way that are beyond elementary age. Overall I think it’s great for getting discussions going.

    Great Devotional
We use it almost nightly at the dinner table. Definitely recommend.

    Excellent!!
A friend gave us this to share with our grand kids. We read it first. We loved it so much we kept a copy and bought two more. As a Sunday School teacher, I felt it was super helpful. I wish there was a table of contents for reference.

    It’s Ok…
This family devotional is Ok. I homeschooled my children (youngest is third grader) and they all had their own devotional that they worked on at the start of each school day. I was very pleased with their devotionals. My children recently transitioned to the public school system and I was finding it difficult (hustle and bustle of am morning rush) to have them continue the habit of working on their devotionals first thing in the morning so I decided to purchase this family devotional. We do it twice a week together as a family. I like some of the discussion starters but some I skip as I feel they are too advanced for elementary school age children. I struggled to find a topic discussion on being grateful. I was also annoyed about the mention of Halloween and Trick or Treating. Our family does not participate in Halloween (to each be their own…and yes we celebrate every other holiday/birthdays etc.) and I don’t know why the author assumes that everyone reading this devotional participates in Halloween. It took the focus away from the topic and memory verses. I will continue to use this devotional but with great caution.

This book is an ideal discussion provoker that’s perfect for meal times in a light hearted manner. Definitely a 5 star book!

This book has a year of daily devotions, perfect for in the morning before school or after dinner. Our kids range in age from 6 to 15 and they are all learning things. Plus the questions are stirring up great discussions around the table!

Love the questions that encourages discussions

Our family are a mixed bag of Christians (me and my wife), very interested (my 8 year old) open (my 13 year old) and mildly interested (my 16 yr old) – the book is aimed at a family of Christians who are maybe 12+….As much as ‘being Holy’ (24th April) is important as a Christian…the devotion simply isn’t written well enough to engage a range of ages/both believers and none. We’ll keep trying to persevere but as far as I can see it, it’s main plus point is it might spark ideas for me and my wife to discuss with the kids…I was hoping as a family we could take it in turns to read but that’s not going to happen. If anyone has any recommendations for others they’ve tried, pls comment.

Unfortunately for us this was too difficult for a seven year old, but also a little bit confusing for both the adults in the house. Not really sure why, but it seemed to create confusion when discussed as a family which was the point….to have a family discussion. Read a good review of it but we were disappointed. However I CAN highly recommend The One Year Bible for Kids, challenge edition, by Tyndale kids. It’s in the New living translation. One day, one and a half pages roughly and a brief in depth, very relevant application section, with a new testament quote to back up the message. Perfect. I won it in a competition. My 7 year old reads it alone or with me.The end of the month challenge asks things like “write down three things you learned about God this month.” Going back over the book with a highlighter proved to be fun and a good way to pick out key points “
