Great Reference That is Easy to Use
This field guide to the birds of the Carolinas is excellent. Each listing has clear, crisp photographs, not cartoon-ish graphics, of each species. The listings are coordinated by color. For example, if you spot an unfamiliar yellow bird, you can simply thumb through the yellow section (with colored tabs on the page edges) to look for the corresponding listing. Easy to use, durable, and full of useful information.

    Informative and Easy for Identification
I have purchased other books by this author and photographer, Stan Tekiela. He continues to impress me.The photographs, as usual, are beautiful and full of personality.Beyond that, as with his other books, this guide makes identifying birds EASYand ENJOYABLE, even at the fleeting moment of watching one. Being able to quickly find a bird by color or other attributes is soooo helpful. Even hard of hearing folks can use his books (unlike books that only focus on bird calls). That Mr. Tekiela includes histories and migratory/seasonal ranges in the text helps to make bird watching — even if only from your livingroom window, all the more enjoyable.I purchased several from different regions as presents for friends in such areas. They all expressed their enjoyment and ease in using the series

    This book is GREAT!
So much prettier in person. Giving it to my husband as a gift and he is going to love it. Lots of good info, really nice and detailed images, solid cover with a little indent already built in so it doesn’t put stress on. The cover when you fold it. Wpuld definitely buy again

  4. Pepe’s Mom

    Excellent, well organized book
I’m new to birdwatching & was having trouble identifying the birds coming to my new feeders. This book makes it easy by organizing all the birds that I might see in southeastern NC by their main color and then by size within color. What I found most helpful are the tips about which other bird it might be if I don’t match it on my 1st try & providing info about habitat & feeding habits. This is a great book for newbies – either to birding or to the area. Highly recommend.

  5. Acme

    Easy to use
I am by no means an avid bird watcher. In fact this would be my first foyer into the field. This book is organized so good. It’s broken down by colors and makes it real easy to find the bird you are looking for. It even has inset pictures of the other sex. For instance you may see a red bird go to the correct page and on that page is also a picture of what the other sex looks like since many have different colors depending on the sex. I think it’s a great purchase for those looking to easily find out what species you are looking at.

    Very informative
    Colorful and interesting

  7. AvidBrewer

    Favorite bird book
If you love in SC, this is awesome. So easy to use for a beginning birder, organized by bird color. We have bought 3 copies for us and others over the years. It has short, informative descriptions of the birds too, like what they eat and when you typically see them.

  8. Library GaGa

    On My 3rd Copy
I keep leaving this book in the zippered pocket of my lawn chair. And it keeps marinating in rainwater. It’s worth buying over because it’s so darn useful in birdwatching.
