Description

Filled with compelling stories, expert advice, and stunning National Geographic photography, this comprehensive guide features extraordinary destinations for divers who like to travel, divers traveling with non-diving companions, and travelers who are passionate about the ocean.
Dive travel experts Carrie Miller and Chris Taylor traveled to 50 inspirational locations around the world―spending more than 250 hours underwater―to bring you this one-of-a-kind guidebook.
In these rich and inviting pages, you will find travel stories and practical tips to make the most of your next adventure.
· Marvel at manta rays and dragons in Komodo;
· Explore the hiking and diving paradise of Saba in the Caribbean;
· Dive in with white sharks and whale sharks in Australia;
· Discover shipwrecks and sand dunes in North Carolina’s Outer Banks;
· Learn martial arts and shore-dive in Okinawa, Japan;
· Linger in the land and sea gardens of Bormes-les-Mimosas, France;
· Road-trip around the marine reserves and coastal towns of New Zealand’s North Island;
· And so much more!
There is a purpose to these extraordinary travel experiences: conservation through exploration. To that end, each location highlights a global issue―from the necessity of protecting remarkable ecosystems like coral reefs and mangroves, to sea turtle and shark conservation―and suggests ways you can learn more and get involved.
Whether you’re dreaming of your next dive holiday or looking to travel the world a little differently, this guide will inspire you to get out and explore―above and beneath the surface!

    A great travel book for divers and non-divers
    Kudos to Carrie Miller and Chris Taylor! I bought an earlier publication by the authors- 100 Dives of a Lifetime, and found that book to be well written so getting this one was a no brainer.As a traveler, who became a diver, I loved this book. The choices of location is amazing. As someone who has wanted to tour the Pacific region and explore underwater this is a good place to start. I am looking into traveling to the Cook Islands, I found their write up of Rarotonga very interesting.I read the sections covering places I have already traveled to, and can not fault their selections at all. While this book covers a lot of the usual diving hot spots, they also go off the beaten path. While every diver is aware of how great the diving is in Maui, this book covers the Island of Hawaii, which is where I fell in love with diving. Their description of the black light dive available is wonderful to read, especially after experiencing it myself.Congratulations on another great book. I look forward to your next one!

    Must have for any travelling diver
    I have dived a lot of the Pacific Islands and learned about the places as I went; this book tells the story of places to go and what to do and see on the islands and in the oceans. I love the way each location is detailed, with enough information to know the critical things and places to see, with the tips that are always things you wish you would have known before you went.I see this book as my new travel guide. This, along with Carrie’s companion book “100 Dives of a Lifetime: The World’s Ultimate Underwater Destinations”, is a must-have for all traveling divers.

    Beautiful book
    Beautiful book. Bought as a gift for a friend who dives.

    Useful and beautiful.
    I purchased two copies of this book. One was myself (not a diver) for the photographs, to learn about the destinations, and to gather non-diving travel tips. The book is great for all of that. Interesting and easy to read. The second copy was for my diver friends (a couple with one avid diver and one new diver), who love it and are using it to plan their next dive trip. Great gift idea for friends who are divers or enjoy travel in dive destinations.

    Absolutely loved it. The perfect gift for a diver.
    This book is amazing. Not only does it have some great, off the beaten path dive destinations, it also gives you much needed information for your time above the water as well. If there is a diver in your life get this book for them. If you are a diver treat yo self.

    Comming-Out-of-Covid Wish Book!
    Now that we are again getting back to our diving travel, it was time to give us a new read that provides updated info about possible destinations. Expect the usual Nat Geo quality & pix!

    GREATphotos
    Few sites near US since coral and creatures are dying off. Most great places are far from the US and haven’t had so many divers to destroy the underwater environments.

  8. The Rare Variant

    Great book for divers and those who love the water
    This is a great book! All the appeal of a coffee table book (great photos, easy to read a bit here and there) with the size and essential information of a travel guide. While intended for divers, it’s really wonderful for anyone who loves travel to the beach. Definitely will be buying this as a gift this year!

    Great book to dream about where I want to go next!

    This book is a work of art. National Geographic have outdone themselves yet again. The photographs are stunning. The text is exceptionally informative. The dive sites they have covered are not the usual ones mentioned in most dive books and guides. Non-divers will certainly enjoy this book too as it doesn’t only cover what’s below the waves but other interesting places in the surrounding area. The addition of a piece by Sylvia Earle is simply inspirational. Don’t hesitate to pick up a copy. This book will soon become a must-have classic. You’ll be planning your next dive trip in no time but it may be to somewhere you’ve never considered before.

    This wonderful book is the ultimate dive travel guide covering everything from the all-important dive overview to providing a good range of accommodation, dive centres, weather info & even practical packing tips. Its totally unique.It’s extremely informative, insightful, easy to read and we felt ready to go explore after immersion in this book.We loved the authors awareness of the environment & deep respect for communities and this needs to be applauded.This beautifully written book with fabulous images has found a permanent spot on our coffee table.We would thoroughly recommend for ocean lovers, scuba divers and travellers, and as a very special gift.
